Matthew Challenge Update 1

Hello everyone! Pastor Alberta here. I’m delighted that so many are participating in the Matthew 5-7 challenge. I’m doing it too. We have well over a hundred people participating so far, and expect many more.

I have a thought or two:

• Consider reading the chapters from different translations. Try to use the NIV and the ESV and especially…after a few days…. the New Living Translation [NLT]. You can view these translations by going to If you have trouble doing so, let me know and I will send you an attachment of the chapters.

• Also, submit questions and observations to me and I will address them here on this blog.

• Finally, I suggest that you read the passages for a few days in a “clean” format…that is, without the benefit of a study Bible. It is good to let the Word of God sink in before we start to get all kinds of ideas from commentators.

Happy reading! Blessings!

Thank you Pastor for involving the congregation in a mass bible study. My hope is that many will join you in this endeavor. I do not have a question per say, yet I’m amazed at the importance of Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Having peace and living in peace appears to be a basic building block of our faith and one that separates us from the world. From reconciliation between God and man through Christ Jesus, and living peacefully under the authorities of government to existing peacefully between brothers in Christ. Peace is also something given. If you have any thoughts you could share on this subject it would be appreciated. Jim Stover

  4. I have a few Bibles that I use (different translations), and I also have the Telecarta Bible app on my iPad. This app offers many different translations of the Bible (KJV, NKJV, NIV, NLT, etc.). One of the things I really like about this app is that I can have two Bible translations side-by-side at the same time. I can read them both together and go back and forth between the two as I study. It helps me get a much better and deeper understanding of God’s Word. Currently I have the NIV and NLT both on my screen at the same time.
